• Complete our Seasonal Home Maintenance Spring Checklist: This article gives you a complete list of the home maintenance items to make sure your house is in great shape and you do not have damage to your home from winter that will cost you a lot of time or money.

• Clean up the yard debris left over from the fall. In areas that get snow, lots of debris and sticks get mashed into the surface of the lawn. Now is the time to give your grass and landscape beds a good raking. It is also time to put down your first lawn fertilization application with grab grass control. I prefer Scott’s Brand products. Many other companies also make good products also.

• Now is a great time to clean out the garage, basement, and other storage areas. During the cold time of the year we tend to stuff a lot of items away with the intention of getting back to them and it being cold outside we just put it off. Go through all of the items that you have in your storage areas and closets and see what you can donate or throw away. De-cluttering always tends to make your house feel more airy and spring like.

• Take a weekend and do a good spring cleaning of the whole house. Open up some windows and let in the fresh air from outside. This will help remove the stall smelly air from a forced air heating system. As you clean up try to note anything that need to be fixed and get it on you DIY list.

• Now is the time to get all of your summer DIY project listed. What I do is make a separate manila folder for each project that I plan on working on in the summer and using it to collect all of the measurements, samples, pictures, ideas, and materials list for each individual project. This really helps keep things organized.

• Vacation plans and family time is also an important thing to plan this time of the year so that you will be well prepared for fun and not bogged down with last minute house chores right when it is time to leave on a family trip.

A little bit of cleaning and preparation will put you in a great place to be able to enjoy your summer time and not feel guilty that you did not accomplish your home projects. Take your time, be safe, and get to work on your spring home projects.
