Home Maintenance is very important to keep the value of your home up

This is a four part series outlining what you should be completing during each season around the home to ensure that you do not have expensive problems come up. It is always cheaper and easier to keep up on your homes maintenance then to have to repair something that breaks because of lack of maintenance.

Summer Maintenance Checklist:

  • Clean out gutters and down spouts
  • Clean out the dryer vent hose and area of the exhaust
  • Change the furnace filter
  • Power wash decks and patios, apply new sealer
  • Lubricate garage door track
  • Vacuum Bathroom vent fan covers
  • Lubricate all door hinges
  • Lubricate door locks with graphite dust
  • Trim back any plants from the house
  • Replace any deteriorating landscape mulch
  •  Fertilize lawn
  • Check for proper operation on irrigation system
  • Check for condensation on water pipes, insulate if needed
  • Check for signs of insect or rodent infestation
  • Seal asphalt around house
  • Power wash siding of house
  • Clean out shower heads and sink aerators
  • Check emergency storm kit for updated items
  • Change batteries in flashlights
  • Clean the coils on your AC unit

 There will be some different items with each individual home and situation. It is best to take your time and look for anything that does not look right. If you do not feel comfortable handling some of these items hire a handyman. They will charge you by the project or if you wish for them to do a complete check it will run about $125.
