The most important thing to remember when you design a room is to purchase the right furniture. Too much furniture or pieces that are too big and overpowering can all make a room look and feel much smaller than it is. Sure, purchasing matching sets is nice, if the room size can handle it. Otherwise opt for a select few pieces to enhance the space, not take it over.

Once you’ve selected your furniture for your design, you have to figure out the best way to place it in the room. Avoid lining everything up against the wall. Although keeping good traffic flow is important, bringing the furniture away from the walls, and pulling it together can crate a cozy and intimate seating area that is both pleasing to the eye and more comfortable for conversation.
