Many people like to have area rugs in their house as they have a lot of practical uses along with giving a different look to the room. But they do not have any clue as to what rug will best suit their home and look great in the area they are going to place the rug in. All they can decide on is that they want a rug in the house. They can?t decide on the design, pattern, color or other necessary details regarding the rug. Below are some tips that you should follow before buying a rug.

You need to first find out how much traffic is that particular area going to get. If the area is a high traffic one, it is better to invest in a high quality rug that will not get worn out quickly. If you choose a poor quality rug then it will wear out quickly and you will need to replace it sooner than you would like. Ultimately you would end up spending more than before.

The next consideration is what purpose the area rug is going to serve. If it is going to be the room’s main area of interest, then you should go for animal rugs that will have beautiful prints of animals on it. The design and pattern of the rug will surely draw everybody’s attention to it. But if you do not want it to be the focal point, then you should go for a rug which isn’t too colorful and has a simple design on it.

If you have kids or pets in your house, you will need to take this into consideration while buying area rugs. Kids and pets can cause damage to the rugs easily. Pets are in the habit of making the rugs their sleeping area and can make it dirty real fast. Go for kids rugs which are stain resistant in such cases.

You may like many area rugs but you have to stick to a budget too. Decide how much you can afford to spend on the rugs before you go shopping. There are some rugs which can break the bank while some won?t cause much difference in your bank balance. A good option is braided rugs which are highly durable and provide good warmth and yet are not too expensive. If you are on a shoe string budget you may want to go for a cheaper alternative, synthetic rugs. These rugs are not hand knotted like wool rugs but the fibers are punched with needles like in carpets. You can replace them as often as you like and give the same area new look with new holiday rugs every time.

Another thing you need to consider is how large the area rug is going to be. Make sure that you leave enough space between the rug and the wall. The rug should not stick to the corners of the wall. Instead the rug and the wall should be separated by a border on all sides. If you are keeping a rug under the dining table, then extend the rug beyond the sides of the table so that it can fit the chairs on all sides too.

All these tips will help you to make the right choice when it comes to area rugs. So the next time make an informed decision when choosing a rug.
