cleaning & organizing-home information

Most of us could probably do with a bit of a spring cleaning in our home. There comes a time when someone really could do with accepting that a pretty severe clean out is in order. Things just seem to gather and accumulate over time, which before you know it become little more than dust magnets and make any home look smaller and more cramped than it already is.

So there’s a choice to be made – tackle the job with a ‘no pain no gain’ attitude, or follow a few simple tips than can see the whole home de-cluttered without you yourself ever breaking a sweat.

Take your pick, but there’s no real arguing where the smart money lies…

One Step at a Time

First up, try and do the whole home in one day and you’ll be in a pit of despair before you even get started. By contrast, employ a bit of structure and do one room, or even just one corner of a room at a time and you can start anywhere knowing that you won’t end up out of your depth. Just grab a box or two, pick an offending area and see how it goes – it’s much easier to pace yourself this way and keep your motivation where it needs to be.

Bite the Bullet and Bin It!

There’s a fine line between being wasteful and sensible, but regardless of your care for the environment there are some things you just have to bin off. You basically need to draw lines between things that are sell-able, donotable and quite frankly deplorable. If after assessing something for no more than 20 seconds you aren’t convinced it will fit into the first two brackets, bite the bullet and side with the third. Just don’t forget to dispose properly using recycling centers. Once you learn to say goodbye to your hoardings, it becomes a much, much easier job.

Embrace eBay

If not already swept up by the eBay craze, now’s the time! This can technically be the only thing easier than binning your unwanted hoardings as all you need to do is take a photograph or two, script out a few words online and the next thing you know there’s a buyer on his/her was round to remove it and leave you with some cash! It’s win-win! One man’s trash really is another’s treasure – there’s just no easier way of de-cluttering a home and fattening up your wallet at the same time.

The Great Giveaway

Really…who doesn’t like something for free? So here’s a tip to capitalize on this little fact – why not invite your friends and family round and give them a heads-up on what you’re planning on chucking or selling? There’s every chance that they won’t leave your place empty-handed and for all intents and purposes end up doing at least some of the hard work for you! Many hands make light work, which means that the more hands you invite over to have a look at what you’re ridding yourself of, the more junk will end up ridding itself! Simple genius!
