Interior Painting tips. Estimating how much paint you need
The walls of your home are the natural background of everything. Even if you have the absolute perfect furniture pieces, the wrong paint colour will ruin the whole interior appeal. You need to be happy with your walls, so you can be happy and proud of your home. Here are some simple tips and tricks for turning your house into the perfect home and refreshing each room.
• Buying Paint:If you already know the colors of the paint you need, but haven’t bought it, it’s time to go shopping. Go to a home improvement store or a supply store for paint and check the displays. In the bigger stores there are literally hundreds of different paint colors and you can even pick a unique combination, which will be mixed via a computer program. Make sure you have the exact measures of your rooms, including the measures of doors and windows. That’s how the shop assistants will estimate the amount of paint you need. It’s best to buy all the paint you will need at once to make sure it’s matched at the same time. You will need to buy a primer, especially if you have to paint new walls or paint over a darker color. Primer is a good idea even with covering lighter paint. It helps the paint stick on the wall, even on dirty and damaged surfaces. The result will be great and professionally looking.
• Getting Supplies: You will need tools for the painting and home improvement process, such as ladders, trays for paints, drop cloths, painter’s tape, brush, roller brush, small brush for the corners. Some areas will be harder to reach and if you want perfect results you need the right tools.
• Preparing: The amount of time for the job will depend on how fast you prepare for it, how fast you paint, but also on the drying time. Each coat needs its own time to dry (ideally overnight) and then you have to apply another coat. Usually it’d take you a whole weekend to paint just one room, but the result will be worth the time. If you want to paint and move the whole house to a new level and also add some special techniques, it will take you several days. Drying is crucial, so pick a day when the weather is dry and warm, but not hot or humid. The water from the paint has to evaporate naturally. Spring and fall are the best seasons for painting.
• Techniques: Before you start painting, use the painter’s tape on all the trim areas, put the dropcloths on the floor, next to the door and the walls. Use a roller to paint bigger sections of the walls. After you finish for the day, make sure you wash the brushes and the rollers thoroughly and put the lid on the paint’s bucket.
